Prevention & Training

CARES Northwest offers on-site training to schools and community groups. We focus on violence prevention, helping adults create safe environments for youth, and training professionals in child maltreatment, trauma, and mandatory reporting. Our school approach includes classes on violence prevention for middle and high school students and workshops for school staff. In the community, we offer presentations to youth serving organizations such as pre-schools and daycare, Head Start, Boys and Girls Club, and faith centers.

CARES Northwest is one of five Regional Service Providers in Oregon. Since 1998, we have provided training and consultation to professionals responding to child abuse in counties across northern Oregon, including the Portland metro area.

Professionals in the field of child abuse and neglect are often members of their county’s Multidisciplinary Team. The MDT includes medical providers, child interviewers, law enforcement officers, child welfare case workers, victims’ advocates, counselors, social workers, attorneys, and school staff.
